A person who laced candy with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two children both between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the facility in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he managed.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She explained the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor stated objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.

She said the man continued to play the "candy game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson called the law enforcement once more.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
